I don't like cross-posted messages so am only replying to the 'architecture' one - seems most relevant...

DCE does indeed look interesting. But I don't think it warrants any especial interest by the IVOA as a whole. It might be a technology on which a project might implement some of the VObs features but that would still have to interoperate using the IVOA standards with components from other projects. If we can adapt some of their ideas into our standards that'll be useful but the standards need to be relatively implementation-free.
