Dear Stacey,
Further to our (Reagan Moore, I and you) preliminary discussion at the Seattle GGF8 meeting, I now attach our proposed charter for the Astronomy Grid communities GGF research group. We believe that this would best fit within the Applications, Programming Models and Environments Area (APME). As you can see this initiative is backed by the major global initiatives (see the International Virtual Observatory Alliance www site at www.ivoa.net for background info) currently constructing virtual observatories. Many, such as AstroGrid, are employing enabling grid technologies in this process.
If approved by the GGF we would hope to be able to begin the process with the organisation of a BOF at GGF9 in Chicago.
Please let me know if there are any further supporting materials that you might need.
Yours,
Nic Walton
p.s. I realise that my GGF membership had lapsed, but I'll renew this with my registration for the GGF9 meeting!
