[Observation] - Scope?

This is probably me being ignorant of the right terms, but I couldn't get a grip from the Observation document about what range of things we are trying to model here. Is it anything observed, from raw data to lists of objects in a sky catalogue? Or something a bit inbetween?

Have we got something a bit simpler we could model? Like SEDs?!
