Astronews from La Silla

We could finally observe last night.

2.2m: service mode with FEROS

3.6m: service mode with CES and HARPS

The dome is still moving in slow motion
      and wheels deteriorate quickly.

NTT: shared night. The first half a night will be dedicated to
the calibration plan, the second half to the NIR imaging of
CNOC2 group galaxies, it is a continuation of yesterdday
     night program.

Astronews from Paranal

Our plans were a bit perturbed last night due to bad weather. We had to close the dome for a good fraction of the night while heavy clouds were passing above Paranal.

As a result, tonight plans are a carbon copy of last night's ... trying to complete the work started yesterday.

We'll start with Amber VLTI service mode on UT1/2/3. Depending on conditions, we will switch to MIDI or not, using the orphan UT in standalone service mode operations.

Technical activities on UT4 will continue. On the menu: testing of SINFONI, NasmythB adaptor-rotator calibration, telescope pointing model, NACO alignment ...
