Heh. Well as it happens, I slightly stuffed up the internal redirection, so by accident it turns out that .../issues.doc, .../ issues.wibble.exe and so on all return exactly the same content, with exactly the same (correct) content-type.
A browser which guesses extensions in this way is broken, and the bug should be reported (this is IE, right? OK...). Since the content- type is present in the HTTP response, the browser is explicitly forbidden from either sniffing the content or guessing based on the extension. In other words, it's because IE _is_ an extension-guessing browser that it's stuffing up.
