Here are my comments on the UCDs proposed by SS people, see:   http://portail.imcce.fr/fr/expert/ssvo/wgovp/propucd.html

  1. meta.id.(x,y,z) Cartesian component of a vector

In the present list of ucd-words you find

S|pos.cartesian |Cartesian (rectangular) coordinates
Q|pos.cartesian.x |Cartesian coordinate along the x-axis
Q|pos.cartesian.y |Cartesian coordinate along the y-axis
Q|pos.cartesian.z |Cartesian coordinate along the z-axis

The keywords used for assigning these ucd-words are: Q|pos.cartesian.(x,y,z) |(x,y,z) axis coordinate position (U,V,W) component projected

so that the description: y component of any-V-quantity leads to the ucd: any-V-quantity;pos.cartesian.y

where vectorial quantities are, for the moment,

V|phys.electField
V|phys.magField
V|pos.distance
V|pos.pm
V|pos.precess
V|src.veloc

On the other hand, pos.cartesian.x/y/z is a quantity (position on axis x/y/z), so that the description :

Xpos on detector yields pos.cartesian.x;instr.det

My suggestion is: keep pos.cartesian.x/y/z

2. obs.air suppress
3. replace with: obs.atm
I agree.
But then we need to change air into atm in: S|obs.air |Atmosphere
Q|obs.air.extinction |Atmospheric extinction and
Q|obs.air.mass |Airmass could become Q|obs.airMass

4. obs.atm.refraction / phys.refraction
I support Jonathan suggestion: change into obs.atm.refractAngle
phys.refractIndex

5. obs.elongation
The elongation of a celestial body its the angular separation from the body around which it orbits
The UCD for this quantity already exists: pos.angDistance

6. obs.phaseAng
as above

7. pos.az.ha, pos.az.azi, pos.eq.ha
I agree with the proposal.

8. pos.brc.(), pos.earth()
I basically agree. I also totally agree with Jonathan's comment.

9. pos.eop.()
OK

  1. pos.precess No, the description is all right: just <precession> Equatorial precession ==> pos.precess;pos.eq I prefer this, its more flexible.
  2. phys.magAbs.G I'm only aware of the H mag (which is actually a visual mag!!) I remind you that phys.magAbs has E-flag: if you just need to specify the phot band, you can say: phys.magAbs;em.opt.V
  3. src.orbital.meanMotion I suppose it is an average angular velocity (src.veloc.ang;stat.mean). No strong feelings about it.
  4. ...veloc... to be revised (not only in the framwork of SS!!
  5. src.veloc.compon Not in the present list.

Cheers,

Andrea
