I think that's an understatement: personally I think is is almost crazy to allow it in most cases because you need to know too much to formulate good SQL... by "good SQL" I just mean reasonably efficient (which means knowing the DB platform at least) and producing correct results (which means rather explicit deep understanding of the schema and content).
I really cannot foresee allowing directSQL to any of the tables I have developed. In fact, I can't even feasibly write good SQL manually and always use tools that generate the SQL for me -- and I designed the schema :)
