Doug, are you suggesting that TAP has to provide a one-to-one mapping
with a particular service implementation (the DAL service model you are
referring to)?
As I understand it, the VOQL-TEG is tasked with producing a simple, common-baseline Table Access Protocol that can be supported by current and future heterogeneous data service models. These models already differ; TAP will not likely be a perfect fit to any of them.
Keeping TAP as simple as possible, at least in the first version, seems a sensible way to get broad implementation, compliance and deployment across the VO.
