2) General discussion
ADQL:
IO did a summary of what has been updated in the ADQL document (See
changes.html file attached in email sent by him on 04/24/2007).
KA agreed with leaving out SELECT INTO for a later version of the document.
AS mentioned missing functions related to data type casting, string manipulation and bitwise operators. He will send the list to the TEG. Usage of JOINS within the ADQL in question.
FO commented on expanding the current definition of data types and will send inputs to the list.
KA commented that Jeff Lusted will review in detail the BNF and will eventually send comments on it.
DT asked on usage of utypes or ucds within the ADQL. PO commented that differences between utypes and ucds will be addressed at next Interop. KA commented hat the only question here is to agree on a way to differentiate columns from utypes.
PO assigned PD and BG to work the region definition out. AS will provide inputs to BG regarding the NVO footprint service using linear STC.
PO identified the need of describing syntax and usage of User Defined Functions(UDFs). AS commented on simple/complex types of UDFs and problems that may arise when implementing them. Will send comments to the group through BG.
PO assigned an AI to IO on the syntax for identifying utypes within the language.
AS mentioned SQL92 way of accessing table metadata and that it should be considered for ADQL. DT/IO commented that it should be addressed in the protocol, not inside the language.
TAP:
PO proposed to discuss in China whether the two different inputs sent
to the VOQL-TEG list (from DT and from IO) deal with the same concept or
otherwise. Different opinions were heard and a more detailed discussion
was deferred to Beijing meeting.
