I'm not sure I understand all you have to say about POINT.

You have:

 POINT(coordsys, longitude, latitude)

Is this covered by the latest draft spec (dated after your forum entry), which has a similar construct:

 <position> ::=
<left_paren> <coord_sys> <comma> <coord_lon> <comma> <coord_lat>
<right_paren>

The draft spec has considerable room for manouvre regarding how coordsys is represented, and I believe we are widening this to get away from keywords like ICRS and GAL towards a string representation (of which 'ICRS' and 'GAL' would be examples).
