Sorry Alex, this is a mistake/oversight on my part. We are still doing exactly as you thought, using a literal string type. I've just mixed up two ideas in haste. The COORDSYS function is entirely separate: a utility function for extracting the coordsys string from a geometry. But I've stupidly giving them the same BNF tag. I'll rename one to correct the fault.
