Pedro,

I feel really frustrated by your conclusions; true, I was very late to react, but still it is important that the document is as comprehensive as possible, for the possible future extensions. Why do you want to keep the "system_defined_function" term ? The term "geometry function" introduced by Jeff has the advantage of giving an expressive name to the ADQL specifities: a group of functions (actually implementable with the "user-defined functions" concept in SQL) Moreover, the specification of DEGREES as units applies ONLY to that group of functions (math & trigo functions still use radians). If functions related to other manipulations have to be introduced in future versions of ADQL (e.g. functions dealing with photometric transformations) then a dedicated name (e.g. "photometry function") would better be introduced rather than additional "system_defined_function", dont't you think so ?

About the examples, even though an appendix devoted to examples will come up, improving a bit those listed would really help the comprehensiveness, e.g. BOX('ICRS', table.ra, table.dec, 5., 5.) rather than BOX('ICRS', 1, 2, 4, 5). Anyway, I'm eager to have a look at the final text.

And about the ELLIPSE, since I was too late, I understand I have to give up ..
