I'm dithering a bit here, while I agree what we have isn't perfect, wasting even more time trying to get something that is all things to all people isn't going to win us any friends. We need to start deploying stuff real soon now or people are going to start wondering what "those VO guys" have been spending all that money on.
I'd rather take some working Web and Grid services to the community, that they can use now, than spend the next year talking (again).
That said (see, I said I was dithering) I think trying to extend VOTable to represent spectral and time series data is going to bend it into a pretzel. So, as always YMMV.
