I did some tests on the first release of BinX, and intend to repeat them on the latest release. That should be significantly better from our perspective, as it replaces DOM with SAX, and so should no longer fall over whenever it's given a decent-sized file.
I'm going to post a note on BinX on the AstroGrid wiki and will send the URL to this list when I have. I hope to get this done in the next few weeks - it's been on my "To Do" list for months, but hasn't reached the top yet.
